We had an interesting debate in the office recently — as recruiters we advise our clients that a streamlined, quick interview process can be the key to filling positions quickly and securing the top candidates. But being too quick can also be detrimental.
While efficiency is important, candidates want the opportunity to evaluate your company, your culture, and whether they feel valued during the hiring process, which in turn allows the trust to begin to build. A rushed interview often gives the impression that you’re not fully invested in them as an individual or in finding the right fit.
Giving candidates time to engage with multiple team members or to ask questions creates a more positive experience too, making them feel respected and heard.
Whilst we always advise against a drawn-out process that feels never-ending, sometimes slowing down just enough to let candidates feel genuinely considered can make all the difference in securing top talent – or worse, a candidate that backs out due to doubts.
